These drawings constitute part of an installation of the same name that was shown in Chicago at Western Exhibitions in August of 2005. The installation was based on the "Climate of Man" articles that were published in the New Yorker earlier that year. Global Warming was just starting to achieve full-blown media coverage, and I found a lot of the concepts in the articles eye opening. I reprinted the articles, made one scultpure (the X-acto blade shortwave radio found below,) and made an editioned book (or a survival guide) of things one might do in the wake of an ice age. The only useful instruction that it really offers is "In the event of natural disaster, try to have a sense of humor about it." These are the drawings from the book, which adorned the walls of the installation room.
GENTLE READER, TAKE NOTE: These drawings reside in frames that each bear the stamp "THINGS TO DO IN AN ICE AGE." Therefore, to preserve some of the bravado endemic to this one-liner style setup, you may find it helpful to say this mantra to yourself before reading the text in each drawing. FOR EXAMPLE: You, the viewer, look at the drawing of a woman in a parka with a Bluetooth headset. You say to yourself THINGS TO DO IN AN ICE AGE, COLON. Then read the text "Talk to your pilates instructor while you look for your family." -E
